Christmas 2012

I got a lot of makeup goodies this holiday season! I haven't used everything enough to give a full review but on some things I can give a first impression.

Drugstore:

Maybelline Color Tattoo in Silver Strike
I'm a big fan of the other Color Tattoo so I really wanted this new shade which I love!

NYC Smooth Skin Bronzer in Sunny
Surprisingly a very nice bronzer. This is the first NYC product I've actually liked. I do have to say that this color is a little to dark for my pale skin but its manageable.

Eye Delights Instant Eyeliner Strips
I have not tried these yet! I wanted to buy the Dior kind when they came out but they were too expensive. I about bought the Sephora brand but decided not too because they didn't look like they would fit my eyes. Can't wait to try these!

Sephora:

Tarte Clean Slate Deluxe Primer Trio
Tarte - Clean Slate™ Deluxe Primer Trio
  • Clean Slate Poreless 12-hr Perfecting Primer (Purple tube): I've only used this primer once and liked but will have to try a couple more times to give a full review.
  • Clean Slate Flawless 12-hr Brightening Primer (Brown tube): Out of the 2 face primers this was he first one I've used and I my face broke out the next day. Not sure exactly if it was the culprit but I will try again just to be sure. Besides the possible breaking out factor, I didn't feel it made any difference in the appearance of my foundation.
  • Clean Slate 360 Degree Creaseless 12-hr Smoothing Eye Primer: Pretty nice eyeshadow primer. It did its job but I didn't notice anything special.

Kat Von D Lock-IT Tattoo Foundation
Kat Von D - Lock-It Tattoo FoundationI heard mix reviews about this foundation so I went to Sephora and got a sample. The first time I used it I thought it was too thick and hard to blend. After a couple more uses I got the hang of it and ended up liking it enough to ask for a full size bottle for Christmas. This foundation is definitely full coverage!

 Too Faced Beauty Editor Darlings
  • Lashgasm Mascara- This is my 3rd mini size tube of this mascara and I love to use it on my lower lash line because the brush is so small. Surprisingly this small tube last longer than you'd think.
  • Shadow Insurance Eye Shadow Primer- Great primer but just like the Tarte eyeshadow primer it does it's job but nothing special
  • Glamour Gloss-Great pink color and leaves a tingly feel on the lips
  • Lip Insurance Lip Primer- Probably my favorite product in this kit! I got a Sephora giftcard as well for Christmas and so I bought the full size of the lip primer.
  • Primed and Poreless Face Primer- I actually really like this primer! I'm considering buying it in a full size but still need to try a few more times first.

Too Face Lip Insurance Primer
This primer works great for a red lip! I have to say that it does feel weird once you apply it and it dries but it is totally worth it! Definitely check this product out!

Benefit The Big 10
I haven't experimented much with this kit but so far I really like the Bella Bamba blush. I will do a full review soon.

Past month in review

Tragedy
As many of you saw I recently had a tragedy in my life. My Boston Terrier, Boomer, passed away on November 9, 2012, of an inoperable brain tumor. He was my everything. The past month we have all been completely devastated.

Here is a video I made in memory of my little boy

Other bad news
As if grieving for Boomer's loss wasn't hard enough, on November 28 we found out our ,almost 5 year old Pug, Bella, has a cancerous tumor again. This time it is on her leg. She had surgery to remove the tumor on December 4. The surgery went very well and she is currently recovering and wearing a "cone of shame"

When Bella was 8 months old she had a cancerous tumor removed from her skull. The surgery stunted her growth.

School
As it is nearing the end of semester in school I have been very busy with homework and studying for finals. I can't wait until I graduate next May.

Modeling
I haven't done much modeling this past month because I my life is so crazy right now. I did do a holiday fashion show last Thursday for Harem & Company. Below is my first outfit. I wish I took a pic of my 2nd outfit because it was ah-mazing!

Will be MIA

Just a quick note....
I had a family emergency last week that didn't end well. I'm completely devastated so fair warning if I am MIA for a while. I'm trying to get my life back together. If you follow me on Facebook you might know what happened.

Thanks for understanding and being patient

Maybelline Color Tattoo

I'll be honest and say that I was late to try Maybelline's Color Tattoo Eyeshadow. They work great as bases for your eye look. If you don't want them to crease top with a normal powder shadow after applying.

*Tip* These shadows apply smoother when warmed up. Rub 2 fingers together and use 1 to apply the shadows. Trust me you'll notice a difference in how much easier they will go on.

Too Cool- I use this color everyday not matter what look I'm doing. This shade works great highlighting the brow bone and the inner corner of the eye.
Bad to the Bronze- My definite "go to" shade. Just how amazing is this shade?... Amazing enough that my mom loves it and she never wears eyeshadow. Now she wears this shade all the time and it is the only one she will use!
Bold Gold- Great gold color! Can be brightened or darken depending on the shadow applied on top. I've found that loose pigments work better when topping this color.
Audacious Asphalt- I mainly use this shade as a base for my L'Oreal Hip Duo in Platinum. My complaint about this shade is that its not as creamy and smooth as all the others. It goes on patchy for some reason and I'm really not sure why.
(L-R) Too Cool, Bad to the Bronze, Bold Gold and Audacious Asphalt

Fall 2012 Limited Edition colors...
Barely Beige- This shade matches my skin tone perfectly. I would use this color a lot more but since it is a LE and I won't be able to buy it again, I use it sparingly.
Rich Mahogany- Great dark brown color! It does have a slight red undertone making it 'mahogany'. I often wear this shade in my crease.
Mossy Green- The color is exactly as the name calls it Mossy Green. My only complaint about this shade is that it has a black undertone. This makes it hard to keep its 'green' color through out the day even when a matching green eyeshadow is applied over it. Every time I've worn this shade I've noticed that a few hours later is has lost its 'greeness' and has turned into a blackish/brownish color.
(L-R) Barely Beige, Rich Mahogany, and Mossy Green

Sometimes I feel like Cher

Yes I'm beginning to feel like Cher with my wigs. As many of you know last fall I was on a tv show and cut my hair into an asymmetrical pixie. Recently I purchased a wig to turn into a retro style for my pinup modeling. Well I have two exciting shoots coming up this weekend (stay tuned) and needed long flowing hair. Today I went wig shopping and got this baby....What do y'all think?

I haven't forgotten about you!

I'm so sorry I haven't posted in 2 weeks. My life has been CRAZY! My senior year is definitely a challenge since I'm taking 4 college classes this semester.

I've been busy with making jewelry and working on my Etsy shop.

There are many products reviews, first impressions, and hauls in the works so stay tuned!

This fall I have several photo shoots lined up which I'm very excited about!
Here is a sneak peek of the shoot I mentioned in my last post:

I have long hair again?

Yes I have long hair again....well sort of! 2 days ago I went wig shopping which was a lot of fun. I have to say that after almost a year of having really short hair it was weird to 'have' hair again.
I got a great deal on the wig below and I think it looks pretty natural. What do you guys think?
I bought it so my hair stylist can fix it into a 50's pinup style. I'm going to leave it that way so I have it available whenever I want to do pinup.
Speaking of the 50's, I'm going to a 50's Festival in my town on Saturday so I'm going to be all dolled up. Stay tuned for pictures!
p.s. I liked the wigs so much that I'm trying to find everyday use.

This week in my life

This past week has been pretty busy in my life. At my checkup last week my doctor gave me the ok to start working out again as long as I don't do any running. So Tuesday and Thursday I worked out with my trainer and boy am I sore!

For the past few weeks my mom and I have been redecorating several rooms in our basement including my room. My new headboard and mattress was delievered this week so my room is slowly coming together. I'll post pics on Facebook once it is all done...I can't wait!

Last Saturday I was in a Bridal Show at a castle! I modeled 3 amazing dresses in the show. One of them is from the Art Institute of Boston!...It was avant-garde! Before the show started I modeled in a Bentley wearing one of the bridal gowns. I will make a new post when I receive those pictures next week.
To see the video of me modeling in the bridal show click here

Tonight I'm going to see Glen Campbell for the 2nd and final time. Since he has Alzheimer's this is his "Goodbye Tour". I saw him in Branson last December and his show was great.

Hair cut!

Hello everyone! I'm sorry I haven't posted in a while, my life has been pretty crazy. 3 weeks ago I had to have unexpected surgery on my right foot. I haven't been able to workout with my trainer for those 3 weeks so I feel out of shape. As soon as I am able to, I'll get back to my normal routine and get back on track to accomplishing my goal.  Other than dealing with my foot, we've been redecorating our basement. My room and bathroom is going to be retro/50's rockabilly.

Today I got my hair cut which was much overdue. I printed off a few ideas to show my stylist and we ended up with this cut below. The shorter bang pieces are new those will take a bit to get used to.

This weekend I will be modeling in a bridal show at a castle, which I'm pretty excited about!

Comparisons

Back in June I purchased 2 products from Target to compare to 2 products I have been using for a while. I have been testing and comparing for the past few weeks and I am now to a conclusion....

Maybelline Eye Studio Lasting Drama Gel Eyeliner ($10) vs L'Oreal HIP Color Truth Cream Eyeliner ($5)

Packaging and size:
  • They are both in a circle glass pot with a plastic lid.
  • Maybelline .106 oz/3g
  • HIP .159 oz/4.5g
Color, consistency and lasting power:
  • From swatching them on my hand I think the HIP is more pigmented but then again it might not be since the Maybelline I've used for over a year and it has dried out a little bit.
  • The Maybelline formula is a cream consistency while the HIP is more of a mousse cream.
  • The HIP liner last longer than the Maybelline.
Brush:
  • The HIP's brush is crap like how most 'included' brushes are. The size of the brush isn't bad but the bristles hurt and they aren't cut even.
  • The Maybelline's brush actually isn't that bad. The bristles are stiff and don't separate. I actually use this brush with the HIP liner.
Winner: L'Oreal HIP Color Truth Cream Eyeliner

ELF Flawless Finish Foundation ($6) vs Makeup Forever HD Invisible Cover Foundation ($42)

As many of you know I am a huge ELF fan and own most of their products. I've seen their foundation in Target for a while now but never thought I'd try it because I was happy with the Makeup Forever foundation. Since it is summer, and I'm not in school, I have "lazy" days where I do my makeup and do a few errands or just go to the gym. I consider some days as a "waste of makeup". Lately I've been sort of irritated to use my $42 foundation when it wasn't really necessary so I thought I'd give ELF a try. I REALLY like the ELF Foundation.

Packaging and size:
  • They are both in a glass bottle with a pump
  • ELF .8 oz
  • MUFE 1.01 fl oz
Coverage, consistency, and color:
  • I was surprised that ELF's was fuller coverage than MUFE's foundation. The consistency of the ELF is thicker too.
  • I have found that ELF's foundation keeps its color all day unlike the MUFE which ends up washing me out by the end of the day.
Shades:
The only bad thing about ELF's Foundation is that there aren't many shades available. I purchased Porcelain since it was the lightest. In MUFE's foundation I use 117 or 118 (it depends on if I have a tan or not). To compare the colors from the 2 brands I would say ELF's Porcelain is 117.5

Winner: ELF Flawless Finish Foundation even though it has a baby powder/perfume scent which you can only smell when applying.

Yes to cucumbers and aloe?!

As a model I have to keep my skin fresh, clean, and clear 24/7. I will be honest and say that I'm not obsessed with skin care products. I have been wanting to try a facial mask and have heard a lot about the 'Yes to' brand, so that is why I recently purchased these two products at Target.

The Que Bella Deep Cleansing Aloe Vera Mask was $1.99.

"Our aim is to take the finest ingredients that nature has to offer and turn them into wonderful body-care products, that are really effective, a delight to use and affordable for everyone as an everyday treat."
For more product information check out Que Bella's website.

*Note* Que Bella products are only offered at some Target stores in the US and on Target's website. If you are in Canada you can purchase these products at Jean Coutu.

Verdict: This was my first time trying a facial mask and I will say it felt weird but I'm sure all facial masks do. After 15 min I washed it off and my skin felt a lot softer. This product didn't break out my face which I was very glad about. In the end I don't think it really did much. You get enough product for 2 applications.

The Yes to Cucumbers Facial Towelettes were $2.99. I bought the travel size package which contains 10 towelettes for I could try them before purchasing the full size container which is $5.99 for 30 towelettes.

According to the product description...
"The Yes To Cucumbers On-The-Go Facial Towelettes are 98% all-natural, hypoallergenic, and made with soothing ingredients like cucumbers, green tea, and aloe."
These towelettes also won Allure's Best of Beauty: Natural Wonders 2011 award.

Verdict: After using this product for several nights I can say that I don't like these. The towelettes are not very moist and they don't remove all of your makeup. When I woke up the next morning my face was extra oily. I will go back to using my normal method of washing my face at night...washcloth and warm water.

Don't buy this nail product

I'm sure you've all heard of Sally Hansen's Salon Effects nail polish strips. I fell in love with them when they hit stores. However, I did not want to spend $8 on this product. I bought Metal Head on clearance at Walmart for $3 and Teal With It on clearance at Target for $4.50.

Last week I finally decided to try them out. Bad idea! This product is awful!! It took over an hour to do both my hands. The whole time I was thinking "I could have already had my nails painted by now". It was hard to match up to my nails. Each nail ended up having a ripply at the end which ended up chipping off a few days later. I will say that the Metal Head color is really pretty.

I removed the strips yesterday and it was tougher to do than real nail polish. When I finally got the strips off there was a sticky residue still on my nails.

I will not by repurchasing this product on clearance and definitely not full price. In fact I think I'm going to sell the unopened package of Teal With It at my next yard sale.

Where have I been?

Some of you may have been wondering where I have been for the past week. Well the answer is...Tupelo and Memphis.
I was in Tupelo for the annual Tupelo Elvis Fest.
David Lee won 1st place. Tyler Hunter won 3rd place. UETA Cody Slaughter
Then we went to Memphis for a few days. I love shopping at the boutique Crazy Beautiful. After shopping we ate at one of my favorite restaurants, Beauty Shop. Priscilla got her hair done here when it was Atkins Salon.
Crazy Beautiful Boutique.  Beauty Shop Restaurant. Booth where she got her hair done
Of course we had to visit Graceland...again! Every time I visit I always bring Elvis a gift to place on his grave.

Our last full day in Memphis we visted some historical Elvis places. We went to many more places than this but these were my top 3...
Elvis's original crypt. Elvis's first billed concert in 1954. Lorraine Motel where MLK was killed.

Nothing like a Pompadour

Today I got my hair cut and colored.
Kristi, my hair goddess, styled it into a pompadour that I absolutely adore!
As many of you know I'm a HUGE Elvis fan and also a big Adam Lambert fan so this is right up my alley.
Speaking of Adam, I really want to do an Adam Lambert themed shoot soon!

What do you guys think?

First and definitely not last

Well here we go...my first blog post....EVER!
I'm going to try to not sound stupid (notice I said try). Oh geez this is already off to a bad start haha.

Anyways, lets get down to business. I'm actually pretty excited to start blogging. I've been thinking about creating this blog for a while now but I didn't think I would have enough things to post everyday. Speaking of that I'm not sure if my posts will be everyday or not, we'll have to wait and see. I know that I won't be able to post as much when school starts back in August.

Not only am I starting this blog but I'm going to start making videos on Youtube. I already have a channel but so far it just has a few videos from some of my fashion shows and other modeling events.
My videos on Youtube and this blog will sort of go hand in hand. I plan on posting videos and blog posts about...
  • Beauty product reviews and hauls
  • Makeup tutorials
  • Behind the scenes at a photo shoot or fashion show
  • A day in the life
  • Other things related to modeling or fashion
  • and much more!

I doubt anyone is reading my first post but if you are I'm sorry for all the rambling.
Have a great Memorial Day weekend!
